Half Argused
Pesky pub staff aside, the weekend improved from then on. We certainly haven't been affected by that pesky cyclone Favio, that's been beating the hell out of Mozambique lately, not to mention abusing cell-phones at Wildtracks. Sunday was an absolute stunner of a day and seemed like a good opportunity to head off for a little test ride around the Peninsula to see if I have got what it takes for the Argus now only 12 days, 20 hours and some 30 minutes away. So I pulled on the riding kit, got together the energy boosters, iPod, spare tube and all the other paraphenalia (cycling is definitely a 'stuff' related sport) and headed off to Noordhoek to start my ride. The plan was to do about 60 km of the actual route with an added bonus of starting with Ou Kaapse Weg for a bit of hill climbing practice
All in all, things went rather well with the exception of a puncture in Muizenberg, but it was a really nice ride around the peninsula and totalled 80 km in about 3 hours 37 minutes - which still places me on about a 5 hour Cycle Tour in 2 weeks time, and I'm not even that stiff this morning. I think a dip in the freezing cold water at Noordhoek beach may have had something to do with that though. I do have a rather funky shirtsleeves and cyclepant tan though- in spite of wearing sunblock. Who says steamy riding gear doesn't increase one's cool factor!
